Strengthening Housing Stability: Lessons from a Flexible and Holistic Approach
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the fragile nature of housing stability in this country and the inextricable link between our collective well-being and a stable, healthy home for every person. While the impact of the crisis is still felt in many communities, we have clearly seen the importance of a holistic approach to supporting housing stability, particularly during times of crisis. Mission driven housing organizations are stalwart partners in developing practical and equitable solutions for housing stability.
JPMorgan Chase's support of the Strengthening Housing Stability (SHS) program to advance housing stability throughout the pandemic allowed Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future (SAHF) and Housing Partnership Network (HPN) to work alongside nineteen mission-driven housing providers to support services that helped more than 7,800 families remain housed. This program illustrates the foundational value of mission-driven providers and the resident services functions they provide in affordable rental housing.
In the report on this work, you can read about how policy makers and philanthropic partners can further advance housing stability by supporting sustainable, resident-centered programs and the systems that support them; investing in mission-driven partners who can help deliver equitable, targeted solutions at moments of disruption; and utilizing existing networks to reach residents efficiently as well as share best practices and ideas with peers.
