ELACC Advances Housing Sustainability, Affordability, and Public Health With Groundbreaking Decarbonization Initiative
East LA Community Corporation (ELACC) is setting a new standard in affordable housing by launching a transformative decarbonization strategy for its Boyle Heights properties. In collaboration with Housing Partnership Network and Inclusive Prosperity Capital, ELACC is spearheading clean energy improvements to enhance tenant health, lower utility costs, and reduce environmental impact.
The initiative is part of the Retrofit.LA program, a cohort dedicated to achieving 100% clean energy in Los Angeles by 2035. Starting with Lorena Terrace and Vallejo Apartments, the upgrades include solar panels, efficient water heaters, induction stoves, and enhanced insulation. These efforts will save tenants thousands annually on utilities while addressing public health concerns tied to air pollution.
Supported by innovative green financing structures, ELACC’s approach serves as a replicable model for affordable housing developers nationwide. Robin Hughes, CEO of Housing Partnership Network, noted: “This effort exemplifies the power of collaboration in addressing housing, health, and sustainability challenges.”
