The Pivotal Role of Nonprofits in Emergency Rental Assistance Delivery

Since early 2021, the Housing Partnership Network (HPN) regularly convened a Rental Assistance Working Group, a cohort anchored by HPN members administering rental assistance programs on behalf of their state and/or municipal government. These members all were administering ERA programs and many operated COVID-relief rental assistance programs on behalf of their regional governments using funds from CARES before pivoting to ERA.

Support from the Annie E. Casey Foundation catalyzed HPN’s ability to continue robust feedback loops among experienced practitioners on the ground through peer exchange to speed deployment and mitigate execution risk of federal assistance that stabilizes the housing of residents and document lessons learned in a webinar co-hosted by the National Housing Conference and case study report.
