(BOSTON) - Housing Partnership Network, a national business collaborative of leading affordable housing and community development nonprofits, is pleased to announce that Chuck Wehrwein has joined the organization as president of member engagement and business collaboration. In his new role, Chuck will lead and oversee membership, policy, governance, and the International Housing Partnership. He will serve as a member of HPN’s Executive Leadership Team and play a key role in managing collaboration among HPN programs and member-driven social enterprises. Chuck begins his role with HPN in March.

This appointment marks Chuck’s return to HPN following four years at NeighborWorks America, where he served as chief operating officer from 2012 until now. During his tenure, he led field operations, national initiatives, applied research, training, organizational assessment, and information management. He also served as acting chief executive officer in 2014 before resuming his role as COO.

Previously, Chuck was a member of HPN’s executive team from 2007 to 2012, where he was instrumental in managing growth and development of the award-winning business collaborative.

“Chuck is strongly committed to our mission and strategy of peer learning and social enterprise and we’re excited to welcome him back to HPN,” said Thomas Bledsoe, president and chief executive officer of HPN. “He’s a highly respected and talented leader and his deep knowledge of our members, collaborative business model and industry, along with extensive management experience, will be an enormous benefit at this critical period of our growth.”

A recognized leader in the housing and community development sector, Chuck has held a number of senior-level roles throughout his career, including seven years as senior vice president for real estate investment and strategic investment at HPN member organization Mercy Housing, Inc. In addition, Chuck served as chief operating officer of the National Equity Fund, chief financial officer of Thrush Development Company, deputy assistant secretary for multifamily housing at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and deputy administrator for multifamily housing at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Housing Service. Chuck is also a certified public accountant.

“HPN has remained an entrepreneurial leader on behalf of high-impact, mission-driven organizations for more than two decades and I’m excited to do what I can to build on this tremendous legacy,” said Chuck Wehrwein. “I’m honored to work with HPN again and look forward to creating and strengthening collaborative ties among HPN members and staff.”
