(BOSTON, MA) – Housing Partnership Network (HPN), an award-winning collaborative of 100 of the nation’s leading affordable housing and community development nonprofits, is pleased to announce that Brendan Dolan has taken the lead of its social enterprise Housing Partnership Insurance Exchange (HPIEx) the first property and casualty reinsurance company created, owned and operated by nonprofit housing developers.

Housing Partnership Network launched HPIEx in 2004 to address the insurance crisis faced by its members after September 11th when insurers dramatically raised premiums and canceled coverage despite exceptionally low loss histories. Today, HPIEx serves 26 HPN members, providing property and casualty insurance for 80,000 units valued at over $10.5 billion; workers compensation coverage with a payroll of over $250 million; and, delivers over $29 million in total annual premiums.

Prior to joining HPN, Mr. Dolan spent 15 years in the Property & Casualty side of insurance.  For the most recent 6 years, Brendan led the Tangram Insurance east coast growth from $2 million to $26 million in written premium.  While in this role Brendan focused on social service, heterogeneous group captive, and other specialty insurance programs.

“Being able to use my background in insurance in this unique role supporting some of the best nonprofit affordable housing developers in the nation to achieve their missions is truly exciting,” Dolan said. “I’m looking forward to building on the success of HPIEx and ensuring our members get the most of out of the social enterprise they’ve developed together.”

“HPIEx has been serving HPN members for 15 years, and we’re looking forward to where Brendan’s new leadership will take us in the future,” said Chuck Wehrwein, HPN COO and former acting HPIEx President. “In a market where conditions can change at any time, we’re confident we’ll continue to provide the stability and success HPIEx has become known for in our industry.”
