Kim Dempsey joined Housing Partnership Network as the Executive Vice President of Capital Markets in September 2019. Kim manages the Network's capital market relationships, and is responsible for raising debt, equity and philanthropic capital, as well as for its CDFI work.
Before Kim joined HPN, she was the deputy director of the Social Investment Practice at The Kresge Foundation. In this role, Kim worked with Kresge’s program teams, external borrowers, financial intermediaries, banks and public institutions to identify areas where a lack of capital was a barrier to improving individuals’ life circumstances. She structured social investments to advance key strategic priorities for the foundation using debt, equity, guarantees, and grants. During her tenure, Kim originated investments with each of Kresge’s program teams and played a central role in Kresge’s first social venture capital initiative to finance companies that have technology- or service-based solutions with potential to create better outcomes for community health center patients. Kim was a leader in the impact investing field, frequently speaking or teaching at industry conferences and trainings and creating opportunities for newer entrants to invest alongside Kresge.
Prior to joining Kresge in 2014, Kim worked for a decade at Capital Impact Partners, a leading national nonprofit community development financial institution and HPN member. She ended her tenure at Capital Impact as senior director of lending, during which she was responsible for leading the strategic and tactical planning for multiple market sectors and for contributing to the development of new capital products and services.
Kim graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in community studies and sociology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She also has a master’s degree in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School.
