About Wesley Housing
Founded in 1974, Wesley Housing is a leading nonprofit, affordable rental housing developer that builds and preserves permanent housing options for low- and moderate-income persons across the Washington, DC metro area. Our mission is to build up the lives our most vulnerable community members by creating and operating healthy, supportive, stable, affordable housing communities. We do this by offering free support services and education to every resident to guide them on their paths to self-sufficiency. As such, our core lines of business fall under real estate development, asset management, property management, and resident services.
Since inception, Wesley’s work has impacted more than 25,000 lives by developing or acquiring 2,300 units in the District and Virginia across 35 properties. Today, we own 25 communities in the region, of which 22 we manage and operate. Of those, 14 are multi-family apartment buildings, five (5) are communities for older adults, and three (3) are for individuals with disabilities and/or chronic disease–totaling 3,300+ residents.
Recent Accomplishments: In 2021, Affordable Housing Finance named Wesley Housing in its “Top 50 Affordable Housing Developers of 2020” and was one of only nine non-profits to make the list. In 2020, the Virginia Governor’s Housing Conference named our Housing Stability Initiative “Best Housing Program or Service.” In 2019, the Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future recognized Wesley Housing as a Certified Organization for Resident Engagement & Services (CORES), a program designed to identify service organizations that provide resident services provision in line with a robust coordination system. In 2017, the Housing Association of Nonprofit Developers selected Wesley Housing as Nonprofit Developer of the Year for the second time (previously 2006), and for the past six years, we received the SatisFacts’ Resident Superior Award due to residents’ exceptional rating of quality of life in our communities.
