About St. Ambrose Housing Aid Center

St. Ambrose Housing Aid Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit founded in 1968 with a mission to create, preserve and maintain equal housing opportunities for low and moderate income people, primarily in Baltimore City, and to encourage and support strong and diverse neighborhoods. Through our 50 years working in the Baltimore area, St. Ambrose has impacted over 125,000 families and helped to stabilize and strengthen neighborhoods through a combination of counseling and 'bricks and mortar' programs. Those programs are:
- Integrated Housing Counseling offers Homeownership and Foreclosure Counseling as well as Financial Coaching and Transition Counseling;
- Legal Services provides legal counsel and escalated services to homeowners at risk of foreclosure, as well as solutions that address legal issues impacting a family's ability to maintain their housing stability;
- Homesharing helps increase the availability of affordable housing in today's economy;
- Rental Services provides safe, affordable rental opportunities to 310 low income households in the Baltimore area, 161 of our residents are single, female head of household with dependent children; and
- Housing Development renovates and resells foreclosed and vacant properties in tipping point neighborhoods.
St. Ambrose's counseling services strengthen neighborhoods by building a strong foundation of individuals and families who have the tools to obtain and maintain affordable housing, whether that's through home ownership or rental housing. At the same time, our Housing Development strategy revitalizes neighborhoods by combating blight and improving homes beyond current neighborhood standards to support, stabilize, and preserve communities. By addressing the need for affordable housing from multiple angles, St. Ambrose brings the necessary scale to our work to make a meaningful impact on the neighborhoods we serve.
