About Foundation Communities
Foundation Communities provides affordable housing; community learning centers; supportive housing; and asset-building opportunities for more than 7,000 people with low to moderate incomes in three Texas cities. Founded in 1989; Foundation Communities (FC) owns and operates 3,500 rental homes (apartments and duplexes) located in 24 affordable housing communities. FC's on-site learning centers are neighborhood resources; providing after-school and summer youth programs; teen technology activities; and adult classes. Recognizing the need for supportive housing in Austin; FC launched a program of 85 efficiency apartments and 37 rental homes for individuals and families who were previously homeless or at risk; complemented by case management support to increase income and self-sufficiency. In 2010 FC opened its Community Financial Center; the flagship location of our VITA program providing free income tax preparation for 20,000 clients per year. A leader in the asset building movement; FC has enabled 300+ families to accumulate $650;000 in savings and matching funds for home purchase; college; or starting a small business through the Individual Development Account program. FC has also been a leader in adopting sustainable building principles through participation in alternative energy programs; photovoltaic solar panel installation; and the use of energy-saving designs and building materials.
