About Champlain Housing Trust
The Champlain Housing Trust is a community land trust that supports strong, vital communities in northwest Vermont through the development and stewardship of permanently affordable homes and associated community assets. CHT serves a three county service area home to one-third of the state's 625,000 people. In this region, CHT owns or manages over 2,600 apartments, stewards 670 single family shared equity homes, owns 140,000 sq. ft. of commercial space, a motel, and provides services to five housing cooperatives. CHT's loan fund provides support for rehabilitation of single family homes, the financing of mobile homes throughout the State of Vermont, loans to farmers to rehab farmworker housing, and to landlords to rehab vacant apartments. A chartered member of NeighborWorks America, CHT provides pre- and post-purchase counseling, foreclosure prevention, Financial Counseling and education and delinquency intervention, among other services. CHT has won numerous awards, including the 2008 UN World Habitat Award for the Global North.
