About Beyond Housing, Inc.
Beyond Housing (BH) is a nationally recognized community development organization that works to strengthen families and transform underserved communities to create a stronger, more equitable, and prosperous St. Louis region for all. BH has been helping low and moderate-income families and communities achieve their goals for over 40 years. BH evolved from roots as a rental housing organization, but soon realized that housing alone wasn’t enough to help the families we served to live their best lives which led to a service-enriched housing approach. The most recent evolution took root in the 24:1 Initiative, launched in 2011, using BH’s strong background in housing to push forward a place-based initiative in North St. Louis County. BH's investments address the expressed needs of the community: we built a grocery store in the heart of a food desert; a full-service bank in this under-banked community; 95 senior apartments to help seniors age in place; 25 new single-family homes so that families can become homeowners; opened the 24:1 Cinema and retail/commercial development. BH partnered with Affinia to bring a health clinic to the community and broke ground on 41 new affordable rental homes. In 2019, Beyond Housing finished its construction of a new park and extensive street-scraping and most recently, Carter Commons opened bringing new retail stores, dining, and a community kitchen to the Community while also providing additional commercial activity in the region.
Beyond Housing provides a variety of public services in the community we serve. Our Youth Programs provide quality after school, summer school, and college options; our Homebuyer Education program supports individuals wishing to purchase a home; our Community Health Program supports residents living with diabetes and asthma; our school-based Family Engagement Liaisons help families with basic needs and access to services; our Housing Resource Coordination program provides support to our rental residents.
