BHC's Vision is to ensure every citizen within our region, regardless of economic status, has good choices in where they live and how they reach their fullest potential; to better influence policy makers who can create systems change and invest in catalytic community building. We accomplish that vision by building high quality affordable housing. BHC is governed by a 21 member Board of Directors. BHC has developed about 1,500 rental apartments in 15 communities, serving approximately 3,000 individuals annually. The single family division has built and sold more than 225 affordable homes for first time homebuyers. Additionally BHC has developed 30,000 sq feet of commercial space including retail, childcare, healthcare, and community facilities. BHC has 4 business lines: 1. Multifamily Real Estate Development focusing on new construction, rehabilitation & adaptive reuse to meet or exceed EarthCraft sustainability standards; largely using LIHTC financing models; 2. Single Family Real Estate Development providing home ownership opportunities to lower income, first time home buyers; 3. Better Housing Coalition Management formed in 1998, is responsible for the ongoing management of all BHC properties that are consistent with BHC's community development goals; 4. Resident Services - Our youth services have proven outcomes in preventing violence and crime, and improving performance in school. Adult services, such as financial education and vocational training, increase earning potential for families and contribute to their economic prosperity. Wellness programs help seniors stay active and healthy as they age in our communities.
