The Housing Partnership Insurance Exchange (HPIEx) is the first “captive” insurance company created, owned and operated by nonprofit housing developers.
This award winning social enterprise was launched in 2004 to address the insurance crisis faced by our members after 9/11 when insurers dramatically raised premiums and canceled coverage despite our exceptional loss history. HPIEx provides top-performing nonprofits with superior coverage, customized loss control services and stable premiums, which shield subscribers from the volatile pricing in the conventional insurance market.
HPIEx has achieved excellent results for subscribers, allowing it to lower premiums, build strong reserves and has distributed $4.8 million over the past five years for reinvestment in their social mission. The Network serves as general manager and part owner of the captive and oversees its contractual relationships with brokers, fronting carriers, reinsurers, claims managers and actuaries. HPIEx has brought subscribers together for a dynamic peer exchange, especially around best practices on loss prevention.
