Multifamily Development and Operations

The Network provides a unique forum and trusted collaborative space for nonprofit multifamily developers, owners, and operators to share business strategies, pursue innovation, drive efficiencies and promote policies that expand their scale and impact.  We have created a dynamic community of practice among high performing nonprofits that focuses on their property development role as well as the long term ownership and management of their multifamily portfolios.

Practice

  • The Developers Roundtable is a regular component of our bi-annual membership meetings. The chief development executives discuss and design strategies to address key issues confronting their organizations including the utilization of tax credit equity and bond financing, the development of mixed income and mixed-use housing, livable communities, and the preservation of affordable apartments.   In addition, convenings and online exchanges are facilitated on specialized topics of critical importance to groups of members.  For more information contact Matthew Perrenod.
  • The Property Operations Roundtable is a forum for Chief Operating Officers and leaders in asset management and property management to discuss challenges and best practices in the asset management, operation and recapitalization of their portfolios. Recent discussions focused on tools to assess and mitigate organizational risk and strategies to enhance purchasing and maintenance systems.  For more information contact Chuck Wehrwein.

Partnerships

  • The multifamily developers and owners have joined together to create a family of enterprises that efficiently pool resources and strengthen their market position. Through the Housing Partnership Fund, members access risk capital for development and preservation transactions.  The Housing Partnership Insurance Exchange provides property and liability coverage for their apartment communities.   Housing Partnership DIRECT helps members purchase building and maintenance materials at discounted prices.  The Performance Benchmarking Data Warehouse collaborative enables developers and owners to compare and improve operational and financial performance of their properties and organizations.

Policy

  • Members are actively engaged in promoting federal policies that support the development and sustainable operation of multifamily housing.   Through the active involvement of member organizations, the Network has achieved significant accomplishments in the multifamily arena and has developed an ambitious policy agenda.  Key areas of focus include the LIHTC program, HUD regulatory reform and housing preservation, energy retrofitting, and impact investing.
